Every place has a story, and Die Dam is no exception.
Every place has a story, and Die Dam is no exception. What began over a century ago as a stark German-built prison (between 1895 and 1905) has been transformed into something truly extraordinary.
For decades, those clay walls held secrets of hardship and silence. By the 1960s the cells had emptied, the walls began to crumble, and the desert threatened to claim it all. But history had other plans.
In 2005, the ruins were lovingly restored and re-imagined. The cold, bare cells became warm spaces filled with laughter, conversation, and the clinking of glasses. What once stood for confinement now stands for connection.
Today, Die Dam blends heritage and hospitality — a place where echoes of the past enrich your stay, while the present invites you to relax, reconnect, and create your own stories at the water’s edge.
